Ray Dale Smith

Herrin- RAY DALE SMITH, age 40, of Herrin, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Ray Dale was born in Herrin on October 1, 1971, the son of Carl W. and Phyllis Kay (Jacobs) Smith. He married Chesta Doetch on September 13, 2001. She survives in Herrin. Dale served as first mate for Marquette Transportation Company. He had obtained a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice before he began working on the barge. Survivors include his wife- Chesta (Doetch) Smith of Herrin Son- Brandon William Smith of Herrin Brother- Bill Owens of Marion Sister- Maranda Kay Smith of Herrin Special Friend- Mary Coonce of Herrin Aunt- Mary Smith of Herrin He was preceded in death by his parents and his son- Jacob Logan Smith. Dale will be missed by his many friends and family that loved him dearly. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson and Rev. Charles Jennings officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10am-noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
