Raymond Louis Cox, 59, of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 8:40 pm at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Raymond was the son of Ronald L. and Alexandra E. (Danielowsky) Cox. He was born July 5, 1962 in Augsburg, Germany while his father was stationed there serving in the US Army. He married Karla Jean McCuan on January 4, 1986 in Marion and together they have shared over 35 years of marriage.
At the age of 19 Raymond joined the US Air Force. He retired as a TEC Sergeant after 22 years of service. Following his retirement he worked for United Space Alliance on the Space Shuttle Program for 9 years while living in Port St. John, Florida. They then lived in Indianapolis for 2 years and moved to Marion in 2015. After moving to Marion, he worked at Wal-Mart for 2 years, at OrthoTech and for the last 3 years was a school bus driver of bus #65 for Illinois Central School Buses.
Raymond was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, computers and working on cars.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4 – 7 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin with Father Mark Reyling officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion with Military Rites presented by members of the US Air Force Ritual Team.
For those who prefer memorials may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959 and at the church the day of the service.
