Herrin- Raymond Ray Switzer, 74, of Herrin, passed away at 5:00 PM, Saturday, January 19, 2007 at his home with his family.
Raymond was born on March 1, 1932 in Pittsburg, IL to Jesse & Mary (Orr) Switzer. He married Juanita Jane Baldwin on November 9, 1951 in Herrin. She preceded him on death on June 19, 2003.
Mr. Switzer was a US Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged from the service he worked for Norge and then in maintenance at Smoller Bros in Herrin. He managed Jeffrey Enterprises Laundromats in Carbondale and then he owned and operated Switzer Appliance Repair for many years prior to his retirement.
Raymond was an avid bass fisherman and belonged to Crab Orchard Lake Bass Club and Heartland Bass Club. He also belonged to the American Legion in Herrin and the Herrin Elks. He was of Baptist faith.

Six Great Grandchildren- Dustin, Shay, & Bethany Switzer of Herrin, Alyecia Kirsch
of Herrin, Maggie Switzer of Fairfield and Adrianna Rosenow of Herrin
Brother and sister in law- Lloyd and Marie Switzer of Herrin
Sister- Alice Mays of Herrin
Sister- Linda Dew of Vandalia
Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers- Lawrence, Hubert, Floyd, Andrew and Cecil Switzer and sisters- Mae Parola, Grace Kelley and Judy Mays.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Ralph Brandon will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Monday, January 22, 2007 at the funeral home.
Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
