Raymond Taylor, 53, of Pittsburg, died at 11:20 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Marion. Services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct 15, 2001, at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, Marion, with the Rev. Danny Gray officiating. Burial was in the Marion Rose Hill Cemetery with graveside military rites by Marion VFW Post 1301. Visitation was from 5 until 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Taylor was a truck driver for Celebrity Freight System and also worked for 16 years at Sheller Globe. He was a Vietnam veteran and served with the 25th Armored Division. He was a member of Pittsburg Freewill Baptist Church.
He was born on Dec. 31, 1947, to Charles Cecil and Dorothy Jolly Taylor. They preceded him in death. He married Sharon Sullivan on Aug. 7, 1970, in Williamson County. She survives. Other survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Staff Sgt. Randall Taylor of Ellis Air Force Base, Rapid City, S.D., Staff Sgt. Raymond Kurt and Suzanne Taylor of Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Teresa Taylor and Candace Taylor, both of Carbondale; a grandchild, Christopher Michael Taylor; five brothers, George Taylor and Jimmy Taylor, both of Granite City; Robert Taylor of Polk City, Fla., Arthur Taylor of Winter Haven, Fla. and Julius Taylor of Pittsburg; a sister, Evelyn Mitchell of Pittsburg, special friend, John Tanner of Marion; and several nieces and nephews. Seven brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
