REV. J.D. MCCARTY
Energy- Rev. J.D. McCarty, 82, of Energy passed away at 9:25 P.M., Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at his home.
He was born to Joe & Betty (Armstrong) McCarty on April 14, 1919 in Williamson County, IL.
Mr. McCarty joined the Navy during WWII and spent four years serving his country. He was part of the invasion of Sicily, Italy. J.D. served both God and his country with honor. J.D. was a wonderful father & husband. He was a witness until death.
He married Juanita Flener Boren on February 25, 1945 in New Orleans, LA. They spent 56 wonderful years together.
J.D. entered the ministry in 1951. He graduated from SIU-C in Carbondale and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. Rev. McCarty pastored seven churches in Illinois, Texas, and Missouri: The first was Pleasant Ridge Baptist, East of Cobden for three years, next was MiKinley Ave. in Harrisburg for 3 years, third was, Azel Creek Baptist in Azel, TX for 3 years, fourth was Marion Second Baptist for 9 years, fifth was St. Johns in St. Louis for 9 years, sixth he started a mission in St. Peters, MO called Oak Ridge Baptist, and last was the Herrin Second Baptist Church for 3 years. After his retirement in 1985, JD served as interim pastor of seven different churches. His current membership was at the Second Baptist Church in Herrin.

His parents, two brothers; Jack & Lester McCarty, and three sisters, Olene O'Donnell, Wilma McCarty, & Pauline McCarty preceded him in death
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, April 27, 2001 at the Second Baptist Church in Herrin. The visitation will continue from 11:00 A.M. until time of service Friday at the church. Revs. Brad Harlow & Bill Fox will co-officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. The visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 P.M. Thursday, April 26, 2001 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
Memorial donations may be made to TIP Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
