Rev. James B. Johnson, 84, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 5:17 P.M. at Fountains Nursing Care Center. Rev. Johnson was born October 30, 1923 in Carseesco, Mississippi the son of Robert R. & Omelia (Burgess) Johnson. He married Mimoth L. Strunk on August 18, 1943 in San Francisco, California and together they have shared over 64 years of marriage. Rev. Johnson has served as a Pentecostal minister for over 58 years. He started pasturing in Hamburg, Arkansas and was there for 6 years. In 1957 he went to Bethel Temple in Belleville, Illinois for 1 years. From there he went to West Frankfort until 1964, from 1964 1968 in Galesburg and in Herrin from 1968 1979. Following that he evangelized for 3 years moving to Bastrop, Louisiana on to Tallulah United Pentecostal Church until November 1997, and then they moved back to Marion to complete his career. He was a member of Johnston City United Pentecostal Church Survivors include: Wife Mimoth Johnson of Marion Daughter Joann Bailey and husband Robert of Rockford Son James W. Johnson and wife Ester of Herrin Three Grandsons; Robert Bailey of Phoenix, AZ Anthony Bailey of Rockford James Johnson, Jr. of Herrin Sister Mattie Murray of Carbondale Preceded by Parents, Two brothers Joseph & Frank Johnson, Two sisters Mary Toney and Rosie Lee Jeffers. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Michael Glasco and Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to 1st United Pentecostal Church in Johnston City. Envelopes will be available at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
