Herrin Rev. Sampson H. Harris, 86, of Nashville, TN formerly of Herrin, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2007 at 1:50 A.M. at ALIVE Hospice Residence in Nashville, TN. Rev. Harris was born November 28, 1920 in Christopher the son of James R. & Minnie (Nelson) Harris. He married Vickie I. Saliba on August 30, 1951 in Herrin and together they shared over 55 years of marriage until her death on January 6, 2007. During WWII Rev. Harris proudly served his country in the US Navy on the USS Saratoga. He received a Bachelors Degree from Southern IL University and Masters Degree from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Rev. Harris has served as pastor of the Hurricane Memorial Baptist Church in Herrin and had formerly served the First Baptist Churches in Grayville and Rock Falls, Illinois. In addition to serving as pastor in Illinois he had also served churches in Texas, Arkansas and Louisana. Survivors include: Three sons; James R. Harris of St. Charles, MO Stephen A. Harris and wife Jan of Nashville, TN Sampson H. Harris and wife Donna of Nashville, TN Seven Grandchildren; Ryan Harris and wife Angie David Harris Tyson Harris Christopher Harris Shelly Renee Stillman and husband Dustin Matthew Harris Nicholas Harris Great Grandchild Kiara Stillman Sister Ludene Cross of Chico, CA Preceded by Parents, Wife Vickie, Brothers Roy, Albert, Earl, Nelson and James Harris and Sisters Marjorie Williams, Agnes Calliss and Mabel Harris Funeral services will be Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. The service will be officiated by Rev. Harriss family. Burial will follow in Herrin City Cemetery with military rites presented by Herrins VFW and American Legion Post. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Hurricane Memorial Baptist Church or Trevecca Nazarene University Trojan Booster Endowment Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
