Rev. Vernell Clark, 82, of Pittsburg, passed away at 11:18 A.M. on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be held at the Pittsburg Free Will Baptist Church Saturday, March 22, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Gary Clark officiating, Brent Clark delivering the eulogy, and assisted by Rev. Bryant Harris. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be held at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home Friday evening from 5-9 P.M. and again Saturday at the church from 1-2 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to WGGH Radio Station where Rev. Clark produced The Bible Broadcast during many years of Radio Ministry. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Rev. Clark was born June 5, 1920 in New Burnside, IL to John William and Delia (Tanner) Clark, who preceded him in death. He was married to Gayle Roberts on May 14, 1944 at Zion Methodist Church in Corinth, IL.
He is survived by his wife Gayle of Pittsburg, Son, Rev. Gary Clark and wife Peggy of Pittsburg, Daughter Nancy Clark Wells and husband Rev. Gene Wells of Science Hill, KY. Grandchildren, Brent Clark and wife Lana of Pittsburg, Andrea Clark Harris and husband Rev. Bryant Harris of Sesser, Gregory Wells and wife Andrea Wells of Science Hill, KY, Sarah Wells Webb and husband Kevin Webb of Chattanooga, TN and Justin Wells of Science Hill, KY. Great grandchildren are Tanner Wells and Samuel Clark Harris. He is survived by one brother Gene Clark of Pittsburg and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers Ray, Ralph, Steve and an infant brother and five sisters Marie, Madge, Mabel, Blanch, and Gladys.
Rev. Clark was an ordained minister with the Free Will Baptist denomination and has served the following churches for a total of sixty years in pastoral ministry. They include Liberty (No. 6) Free Will Baptist, Mount Pleasant Free Will Baptist, Arnold View Free Will Baptist, McKinney Chapel Free Will Baptist, Busby Chapel Free Will Baptist, West City Free Will Baptist, Mount Zion Free Will Baptist, Walnut Hill Free Will Baptist, Harrisburg Buena Vista Community Church and Herrin Union Gospel Mission. For many years he served as radio pastor to numerous listeners through the voice of the Bible Broadcast aired on WGGH radio.
