Reva M. Melvin

Reva Maxine Melvin, 99, of Marion died at 7:25 am on Monday September 11, 2023 at Parkway Nursing Home in Marion.

Reva was born January 27, 1924 in Kirksville, Mo. to William Lloyd and Leona Britt.

She graduated from Kirksville High School in Kirksville, Mo. and attended college at St. Louis City Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, Mo.

She married Don Melvin July 8, 1948 in North Chicago, Il. They returned to Southern Illinois both Reva and Don worked at Marion Memorial Hospital beginning their careers on opening day in 1953. She worked as RN, Director of Nurses, and managed several Nursing homes in Southern Illinois. Later after her retirement she worked in home care. Reva was very dedicated to her nursing career and enjoyed helping others.

Reva enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, singing , dancing, making tents in the living room, always right down in the floor with them and she was the worlds best bullseye maker for breakfast and serving them coffee (well milk with a dash of coffee).

Son Daryl Melvin of Herrin, IL.

Jerime and wife Tracey Melvin of Thompsonville, IL.

Justin Melvin and Fiancé Brianna Mason of Hurst, IL.

Jennifer and husband Dustin Jackson of Paducah, Ky.

11 Great grandchildren:

Daven, McKenzie, Austin, Cooper, Dustin, Delaney, Madison, Maci, Paisley, Paxton, Charlee and Landon.

Preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Son David Melvin, daughter in law Lois Melvin, Infant granddaughter Rachael Louise Melvin, Sister Helen Thode and Brother Irvin Paul Britt.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday September 15, 2023 at 2pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Keith Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 1 to 2pm at the funeral home.
