Herrin- Richard Joseph Ahlm, 49, of Herrin, formerly of West Frankfort, passed away at 4:49 AM, Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Herrin Hospital.
Richard was born on December 8, 1957 in Benton to Dr. Charles & Stella (Pongonis) Ahlm.
Richard formerly worked as a chef at various area restaurants and most recently in the deli department of the Herrin Kroger, but it was Richs passion and talent for music for which he is best known. He left at an early age to perform as a studio musician in Nashville. He played slide and lead guitar and was considered by many to be among the best. Rich performed at Opryland for years and currently played for Cousin Delano & Small Town and was the former guitarist for Shakey Jake. Recently he toured Europe with Josie Wales.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Sister & brother in law- Susan & Bruce Willmore of West Frankfort
Several nieces, nephews and cousins

Step Child- Samantha Bandy of Herrin
He was preceded in death by his parents & two brothers- Charlie & Tim Ahlm.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Tim Dame will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
