Richard Lee Emery

Marion- RICHARD LEE ZIP EMERY, age 61, of Marion, passed away at 6:56pm on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at his home in Marion. Richard was born in Herrin on December 17, 1949, the son of Ralph and Betty Emery. He married Ruth Watkins in Marion on April 2, 1994. She survives in Marion. Mr. Emery retired from the City of Marion water department where he worked for thirty years. He proudly served in the United States Army from February 2, 1968 thru February 1, 1971, receiving an Army Commendation Medal for services in the Vietnam War from July 1968-July 1969. Richard received a Purple Heart on March 2, 1969. Survivors include his wife- Ruth Emery of Marion, IL Son- Ryan Emery of Marion, IL Daughter- Kelly Emery of Marion, IL 9 Grandchildren Two brothers- Tom and Cheryl Emery of Marion, IL David Emery of Marion, IL He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Paul Massie officiating. Military honors will be performed by Marions VFW and American Legion Posts with assistance from the National Guard Unit. A time of visitation will be held from 10-11am on Tuesday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
