Herrin- RICHARD M. BAKER- age 70, of Herrin, passed away at 11:48pm on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis. Richard was born in Herrin on July 16, 1935 to John M. and Sarah F. (Dudley) Baker. He married Sharon Burgess in Herrin on January 30, 1960 and together they shared 46 years of marriage. She survives in Herrin. Mr. Baker was a retired carpenter. He was a proud Fifty Year Member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Union #638. Richard was also a United States Army Veteran, a member of the Herrin Elks Lodge #1146 and the Fin and Feather Club in Freeman Spur. Survivors include- Loving wife of 46 years- Sharon (Burgess) Baker- Herrin, IL Daughter- Shellie Stodghill and Jonathon Wheeler- Herrin, IL Grandson- Seth Stodghill- Herrin, IL Sister- Ada Cain- Herrin, IL Uncle- John Jack (and wife Wilma) Dudley- Marion, IL Cousin- Jacklyn Dudley- Murray, KY Nephew- Brad (and wife Carrie) Carey- Herrin, IL Nephew- Roger Snyder- Herrin, IL Several cousins, nieces, and nephews Richard was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services for Mr. Baker will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, June 5, 2006 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with Rev. Ron Henwood officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be held at from 1:00pm until the time of the service on Monday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Barnes Jewish Hospital- Lung Transplant Services.
