Robert A. Giles

Marion- ROBERT ARTHUR GILES, SR., age 87, of Marion, passed away at 5:45pm on Monday, February 11, 2008 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Robert was born in Herrin on December 25, 1920, the son of John E. and Grace N. (Neifert). He married Mary Katherine Knight on December 27, 1941 at the First Baptist Church in Marion. Together, they shared sixty-six years of marriage. Mary Katherine survives in Marion. Mr. Giles was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marion, where he served as Deacon, Treasurer, and Chairman of Ushers. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1942 with a Degree in Engineering. Robert was the Vice-President of Giles Electric for over forty years. He received his Life Master as a bridge player, for which he had accumulated many points. Survivors include his wife- Mary Katherine (Knight) Giles of Marion, IL Two Sons- Robert A. and Pat Giles of San Diego, CA James L. and Sheila Giles of Pikeville, KY Two Daughters- Linda Grace and Russell Dee Rose of Marion, IL Ellen R. and John Mahan of Marion, IL Eleven Grandchildren Sixteen Great Grandchildren Sister-In-Law- Fran Giles of Carbondale, IL Brother-In-law- William Koch of Denver, Co Four Nephews and One Niece Mr. Giles was preceded in death by his parents, brother-John E. Giles, and one sister-Margaret Becky Koch. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, February 15, 2008 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with Rev. Bob Dickinson officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the funeral home.
