Marion Robert Doug Goddard, 88, passed away on Tuesday, November 03, 2009 at 4:15 A.M. at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Doug was born June 8, 1921 in Marion the son of Glen Spiller & Una Olive (Caplinger) Goddard. He married Juanita Woodford in 1947 in Marion and together they shared over 38 years of marriage until her death on January 30, 1985. Doug proudly served his country during WWII in the Army. He retired as a Supervisor from Allen Industries, he had also worked as a coal miner. He was a member of 1st Baptist Church of Marion, life member of the Marion Eagles. Doug served as a Board Member for the City of Marion Housing Authority for 18 years, where he was the Chairman three times. For many years he attended the Marion Senior Citizens, he was an avid athlete and was formerly a minor league baseball player. Doug loved to dance. Survivors include his close friends Gene & Lynda Goolsby of Marion, Helen Ramsey of Pittsburg and Diana Etheridge of Marion. Two Step-Granddaughters Lori Lynn Barnheart and Sherry Lee Woodford of Corona, California. Preceded by Parents, Wife, Sister Kathryn McCluskie and Brother Joe Goddard. Funeral services will be Friday, November 6, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Herrin City Cemetery. Military rites will be presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Flag Detail Unit. Visitation will be Friday from 1 P.M. until the time of service. For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Marion Senior Citizens. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.
