Robert E. Bateman, Sr.

Herrin- Robert Eugene Fingers Bateman, Sr., 66, of Herrin, passed away at 5:00 AM, Thursday, May 26, 2005 at his home with his family. Robert was born on April 24, 1939 in Herrin to Robert R. & Edith (Watkins) Bateman. He married Erma Darlene Brandon on September 7, 1963 in Carterville. She survives of Herrin. Mr. Bateman was a United States Navy Veteran. He was employed and worked in building services at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Robert was a member of the Herrin First Baptist Church, Herrin Elks and International Union Local #316. SURVIVORS: Wife- Erma Bateman- Herrin Son- Robert Bateman, Jr.-Herrin Brother & sister in law- Frank & Kathy Bateman- Creal Springs Sister- Jane Bonali- Herrin Aunt- Mary Alice Watkins- Carterville Aunt- Lou Steurwald- Ottumwa, IA Several nieces & nephews His parents preceded him in death. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Ralph Brandon will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Friday, May 27, 2005 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois, American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross and will be accepted at the funeral home.
