Robert Earl Johns, 84, of the Lake of Egypt, passed peacefully away on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 8:40 a.m. at Herrin Hospital surrounded lovingly by his family.
Robert was born October 10, 1929 in Johnson County, on his family farm, the son of Ray and Gladys (Bradley) Johns. He married Bonnie Tanner-Newell on April 18, 1959 in Corinth, and together they have been blessed to share 54 years of marriage.
He was an Army veteran, proudly serving his country during the Korean Conflict. As a young man Robert left home to work in Wisconsin at a mental hospital, then in Chicago at the Ford Motor plant. He returned home to work at Olin-Mathinson before going to work at the U.S. Federal Penitentiary at Marion, retiring in 1984. Following his retirement he enjoyed working on his farm, tending his cows and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
