Robert F. Simmons

Marion Robert F. Simmons, age 79, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 11:38 A.M. at his home in Marion. Robert was born in Brunswick, Georgia on September 19, 1929, the son of Alma (Davis) and Robert F. Simmons, Sr. He married Nancy Gray and she preceded him in death. On March 1, 1994, he married Jessie Issler in Punta Gorda, FL. She survives in Marion. Mr. Simmons retired as a plant manager from Jones-Hamilton Chemical Company where he worked for ten years. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University majoring in Chemistry and Biology. He was a member of the Michigan Manufacturing Association and the American Chemical Society. Robert was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. Robert was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed hunting and woodworking. Survivors include his wife- Jessie (Issler) Simmons of Marion, IL One daughter- LeAnne and Joe Collins of Centerville, Ohio One granddaughter- Daniella Arnold of Centerville, Ohio Step-son- Ron Issler of New Orleans, Louisiana Step-daughter- Cathy and John Kigin of Terre Haute, IN Sister-In-Law- Ruth and Ray Hancock He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife. Memorial services will be Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Louis Fluck officiating. Ray Hancock will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
