Robert Lee Simonds

Herrin- ROBERT LEE REDI-BOB SIMONDS, age 82, of Herrin, passed away at 12:50pm on Friday, March 14, 2008 at Herrin Hospital. Robert Lee was born in Cambria on October 12, 1925, the son of Albert and Kate (Ragsdale) Simonds. He married Lula Belle Williford, his love of forty-eight years. She survives in Herrin. All his friends knew him as Redi-Bob. He retired from the City of Herrin and previously worked for Paul Hindman and Hindman Industries. Robert was a United States Army Veteran, having served during the Korean War. Mr. Simonds was a member of the West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin, where he enjoyed being a part of the Mens Group. Roberts hobbies included fishing, going to yard sales, trips to the mall, and running his grandchildren all over town. He enjoyed going to McDonalds, the truck stop, and especially loved going to church. Redi-Bob loved to socialize with people and never met a stranger. He truly loved everyone. Survivors include his wife- Lula Belle (Williford) Simonds of Herrin, IL One son- Hank and Elizabeth Isbell of Herrin, IL Three Daughters- Pearl and Richard Alstat of Marion, IL Karen Isbell and her fianc Gary Robinson of Carterville, IL Betty and Calvin Walker of West Frankfort, IL Seven Grandchildren- Jeremiah Reagan of Herrin, IL Jeffrey Isbell of Herrin, IL Jeffrey JD Severs of Marion, IL Holly Isbell of Carterville, IL Caycee Isbell of Herrin, IL Robert Lee Cody Alstat of Marion, IL Michael Walker of West Frankfort, IL One Great Grandson- Brennan Reagan of Herrin, IL One Brother-In-Law- Valjean Russell of Chicago, IL Several Nieces and Nephews Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and one sister. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring doctors, nurses and staff at Herrin Hospital, especially Dr. Parks, Dr. Sean, and Dr. Cowart. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends, especially his friends at Fresenius Medical Center in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Terry Griffith and Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery with Military Honors performed by Herrins American Legion and VFW Posts. Visitation will be held from 11-2pm at the funeral home.
