Robert Penninger

Herrin- Robert Lee Penninger, age 67, of Herrin, passed away at 2:35pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Robert was born in Herrin on November 24, 1944, the son of Esco A. and Agnes (Houston) Penninger. He married Barrie Smith at Lone Oak Baptist Church on September 13, 1969. She survives in Herrin. Bob worked as the custodian of South Side School in Herrin for thirty-nine years. He was a proud member of the Thorntons Coffee Club. Survivors include his wife- Barrie Penninger of Herrin Twin Daughters- Stacey Penninger of Herrin Tracey and Philip Skutah of Farmington, MO Son- Jody Threlkeld of Herrin Mother-in-law- Bettie Smith of Herrin Three grandchildren- Samantha, Tabitha, and C.J. Skutah of Farmington, MO Brother- Edward and Kay Penninger of Herrin Sister- Marilyn and James Carnahan of Panama City, FL Brother-in-law- John Smith of Herrin Several Nieces and Nephews He was preceded in death by his parents and one son- Paul Robert Penninger. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Monday, December 26, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.
