Robert R. Vaughn

Marion Robert R. Vaughn, 79, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at 2:15 A.M. at Parkway Manor Nursing Home. Bob was born July 11, 1928 the son of Frank & Ethal A. (Smoot) Vaughn. He married Geraldine Blake on September 24, 1950 in Marion and together they have shared over 57 years of marriage. In 1958 they had their one and only child, Deborah Kay. Bob proudly served his nation in the army and was stationed in the Army in Nuremberg Germany. Bob was owner and operator of the Motor Valet Car Wash in the 1960s. Bob worked for Mary Powell as manager of Fair Furniture for 25 years. In his later years he worked for Albrights Clothing until the store closed. Bob was an active member of Second Baptist Church in Marion where he loved to sing in the choir. During his service to the Lord at Second Baptist he also helped with Childrens choirs and taught Pre-school Sunday School with his wife Gerry. Bob loved Southern Gospel Music and attended the National Quartet Convention for many years. Another one of Bobs many hobbies was cars. He loved and owned a couple of antique cars and attended many antique car shows. Later in his life he and his wife Gerry became members of the High Neighbors Square Dance Club where they had many good times square dancing. Survivors include: wife, Geraldine (Gerry) Vaughn of Marion; daughter Deborah (Debbie) Davis of Murphysboro; One granddaughter and her husband Aundrea (Andi) and Jason Mahoney of Carterville; one grandson and his wife Kyle and Nicole Davis of Carterville; two great-grandchildren: Rylee Jean Davis & Carson Byron Davis of Carterville; former son-in-law Marty L. Davis of Vergennes; mother-in-law Flossie Scott of Marion; brother Gene Vaughn of Marion; nephew and his wife Ron & Jane Vaughn of Marion; niece and her husband Jo Ellen & Jim Anderson of OFallon, IL; great niece and great nephew Amanda & Blake Vaughn of Marion; great nephew and his wife Matthew & Shannon Anderson of Savoy, IL; great nephews Patrick & Joshua Anderson of OFallon, IL along with many other relatives and close friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Frank & Ethel Vaughn, sister-in-law Ruby Vaughn; father-in-law Charles Blake; step-father-in-law Everett Scott and brother-in-law Clyde Blake. Funeral services will be Monday, January 21, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Dr. Bob Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
