Herrin- ROBERT SPOON WITHERSPOON, age 77, of Herrin, passed away at 7:40pm on Friday, August 19, 2011 at his home in Herrin. Robert was born in St Charles, KY on December 10, 1933, the son of Virgil Johnson and Hallie Ellen (Davis) Witherspoon. He married Susan Ricketts in Herrin on October 2, 1976. She survives in Herrin. Mr. Witherspoon was a member of the Herrin United Methodist Church. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Bob was a member of the Herrin Elks, the Masonic Lodge, and the Shriners. He was a retired manager from Maytag/Norge, where he worked for more than fifty years. Survivors include his wife- Susan Witherspoon of Herrin, IL Three daughters- Donna and Kevin Thomas of Herrin, IL Robbie Spears of Fort Myers, FL Jamie and Kurt Gugora of Chicago, IL Three grandchildren One great grandson Sister- Bonnie Prow of Madisonville, KY Special friends- Bob and Karen Clark of Herrin, IL Numerous friends He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Ray and Bill Witherspoon, and two sisters- Hazel and Martha Prince. Graveside memorial services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Herrin City Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to gather directly at the cemetery. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with memorial arrangements. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.
