Herrin-Robert Bob Thompson Thayer, 74, died 1:50 P.M., Monday, March 8, 2004 at his residence. He was born January 24, 1930 in Waltham, Massachusetts to Kenneth Thayer, Sr. & Dorothy (Black) Thayer. He married Linda (Turner) on December 21, 1979 in Desoto, Illinois. Linda survives. Bob was retired from Norge in Herrin where he worked for 23 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Herrin. He was also a member of the Big Lake Bass Club. He was an avid Bowler and enjoyed deer hunting and bass fishing. Survivors Include: Wife: Linda Thayer of Herrin Mother: Dorothy Thayer of Keene, NH. Two Sons: Bill Deere of Chester, IL. Toby Green of Torrance, CA. Four Daughters: Angie Henderson of Herrin Kim Hudson of Marion Robin Thayer of Torrance, CA. Debbie Comstock of Torrance, CA. Thirteen Grandchildren: Pfc. Chris McCowan of Fort Irwin, CA. Shane Webster of Herrin Laura Oliver of Herrin Jake Hudson of Goreville Jeremy Hudson of Goreville Jenny Hudson of Goreville Logun Deere of Chester Kiara Deere of Chester Keith McCowan of Chester Matt McCowan of Texas Jesse Deere of South Carolina Jackie Deere of South Carolina Josh Manion of Torrance, CA. Two Brothers: Jeff Thayer & wife Pam of Vancouver, WA. Kenny Thayer, Jr. of Pineillas Park, FL. He was preceded in death by his father, two sons, Walter Deere McCowan & Dean Deere. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to his wife to offset medical expenses.
