Robert Wayne "Deanie" Smith

Robert W. “Deanie” Smith died unexpectedly in his home on March 19th in Flower Mound, Texas at the age of 68.

Robert is survived by his wife, Candy; his children, Kevin Peek, James Scroggins, Michelle Goolsby, and Shawn Smith; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and his sister, Kathleen Shannon; step-daughters, Jennifer Mendelson, Brandi Anderson and husbands; six grandchildren and two grandchildren from East Texas. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Robert N. and Joyce Smith and his brother Bruce Smith of Marion, Illinois.

Bob was born on April 6, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois. The family relocated to his father’s hometown of Marion in the late fifties. He graduated from Marion High School in 1968. He married his first wife, Donna Gordon, in 1970. Bob began working for GMAC in Carbondale, Illinois and was later transferred to St. Louis, Missouri. He moved to Texas after he accepted a job with Household Finance. Bob was blessed with the ability to make people laugh. He was a bit of a prankster and had a joke for every occasion. His playful, loving nature put everyone around him at ease. Children recognized him as a kindred spirit who was never too tired to play.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 2 pm at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion officiated by Dr. Bob Wagner. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
