Herrin- ROGER LEE DOTSON, age 59, of Herrin, passed away at 11:28pm on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center Nursing Home in Marion.
Roger was born in Herrin on September 24, 1952, the son of Clarence and Regina (Adams) Dotson. He married Debbie Walker in Herrin in 1992. She survives in Herrin.
Mr. Dotson had retired from Maytag in Herrin after twenty-seven years. He proudly served as military police in Germany at the end of the Vietnam War and was a member of the Herrin American Legion and VFW.
Roger had a heart of gold. He would give you the shirt off his back when he didnt have anything. He was a great brother who took care of his sisters when their parents went to sleep.

Pam Robinson of Mount Vernon
Mary Lyell-Davis and husband Mike of Crab Orchard
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother- Kenneth Dotson, niece- Kim Dotson, and the mother of his children- Rebekah Broussard.
The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and hospice at the Veterans Nursing Home for the care and love they gave him and for the hospitality they gave the family. They went above and beyond their call of duty. This has touched the familys heart deeply and they cannot express their thanks enough to the nursing home.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10am on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Herrin City Cemetery with Rev. Jim Haney officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herrin's American Legion and VFW Posts with assistance from the United States National Guard. Family and friends are asked to gather directly at the cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
