Roger Leon Lewis

Roger Leon Lewis, 81, passed away on Monday, December 05, 2011 at 1:20 P.M. at his home in Marion. Roger was born May 2, 1930 in Marion the son of Lloyd and Grace (Baker) Lewis. He married Mary Juanita Gibson on August 7, 1981 in West Frankfort and together they have shared over 30 years of marriage, she survives in Marion. He proudly answered the call to serve his country during the Korean Conflict in the Army where he received a Bronze Star for his service. He worked as a crane operator in Chicago and after returning to Marion he worked for the City of Marion for 12 years. He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Carterville, Marion VFW Post #1301, Williamson County Shriners Club and Marion Masonic Fellowship Lodge #89 AF&AM In addition to his wife he is survived by his; Daughter Linda Lewis of Marion Son Phillip Lewis of Marion Son Bradley Lewis of Collinsville Nine Grandchildren; Echo Sneed of Chicago Amber Sneed and Fianc Kaleb Pape of Marion SSgt. Brian Lewis of Louisiana Heather Lewis of Bourbonnais Ashley Lewis of Marion Jeremy Lewis of Chicago Kyle Lewis of Johnston City Deeanna Lewis of Marion Jordan Lewis of Carmi Five Great Grandchildren Two Step Children; Larry Bernardoni and wife Debbie of Sparta Carla Bernardoni of West Frankfort Step Grandchild Larry Allen Bernardoni and wife Stephanie of Sparta Two Step Great Grandchildren; Chase and Eli Bernardoni of Sparta Preceded by Parents, Son Roger Lewis, Jr., Four brothers James, John, Donald and Carl Lewis, Three sisters Roberta Morgan, Carmen Boester and Mary Lou Stokes. Funeral services will be Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Algur officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery with military rites presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and members of the National Guard Flag Detail Unit. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 8 P.M. at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Victory Baptist Church.
