Roland (Ole) Oldham

Herrin- Roland Olie Oldham, 84, of Herrin, died at 9:05 AM, Thursday, January 1, 2004 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Mr. Oldham was born on May 21, 1919 in Sardis, TX to William A. & Frances Elizabeth (Hanna) Oldham. He married Naomi Hays on November 10, 1967 in Johnson City. She survives of Herrin. Ole retired from US Civil Service with the Federal Penitentiary in Marion. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and a lifetime member of The Herrin Elks, Eagles & VFW. SURVIVORS: Wife- Naomi Oldham- Herrin Dau & son in law- Rita & Neil Newport- Minot, ND Stepdaughter Charlene Lillich- Herrin Stepdaughter Gwyn & husband John Handegan- Paducah, KY Three Grandchildren: Brenda Newport- Indianapolis, IN Cheryl Newport- Minot, ND Shane Newport- Minot, ND Seven Step Grandchildren: Krista Wood- Paducah, KY Jerry Handegan- Los Angeles, CA Michael Handegan- Murray, KY Jodi Daughty- Phoenix, AZ Tracy Wille- Phoenix, AZ Mark Carneghi- Pitts, PA Letisha Carneghi- Springfield, IL Six Great Grandchildren Eight Step Grandchildren Four Step Great Great Grandchildren Sister- Alleene Meadors- Sardis, TN He was preceded in death by his parents, one son; Jerry Wayne Oldham, two sisters, one brother, and one step daughter; Lou Ann Smothers. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 8, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Franklyn Schroeder; Pastor of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Desoto, will officiate. Burial will follow at Dillingham Shed Cemetery, east of Johnston City. The Herrin American Legion & VFW Posts will perform military rites at the graveside. Visitation will from 6-9:00PM, Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at the funeral home.
