Ruby Evelyn Connett

Ruby Evelyn Connett, 94, of Marion, passed away on 10 Aug, 2016 at 11:55 pm at the Liberty Village Nursing Home. Ruby was born January 5, 1922 in Herrin, the daughter of Guy Chamness Ice and Maggie (Beltz) Ice. She married C.E. “Chuck” Connett on September 15, 1940 in Paris, Tennessee and were happily married for over 67 years. Ruby graduated from business college where she studied bookkeeping and secretarial skills. She worked from the mid ‘50’s,steadily until 1992, as a bookkeeper and executive secretary in a number of Marion businesses including Farm Bureau Insurance, Cline-Vick Drug, Koeneman Insurance, Bank of Egypt, and the Marion Housing authority, where she retired as the Executive director in 1992. She attended Zion United Church of Christ and was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a spouse and mother who loved camping, fishing, traveling, and other activities with Chuck and her boys. She and Chuck loved to dance at the Elks and Ruby was always an example of kindness, love and concern for others. Survivors include her: Son — Bill Connett and wife Joyce (Horchem) of Ann Arbor, Michigan Grandchildren; Shannon Connett of Marion, Heather Downs and husband Kent of Pleasant Grove, Utah Heath Connett and wife Rachelle (Miller) of Dammam, Saudi Arabia Joel Connett and wife Rachel (Bahr) of Lehi, Utah And ten great-grandchildren; Tyler Brady, Samantha, Brookelle, Devin, Caden, Zach, Austin, Noah and Claire Preceded in death by her parents, husband - C.E. Connett, son - Robert Lynn Connett, sister — Reatha Baity (Lloyd) Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, August 26,2016 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. John Holst officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 am until the time of service at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorials may be made to the Marion Senior Citizens Center. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.
