Marion- Ruby Jane Murrow, of Marion, passed away at 10:20 PM, Friday, August 13, 2004 at Parkway Manor in Marion. She was 101 years 9 months and two days old.
Ruby was born on October 10, 1902 in Creal Springs to the late John A. & Ida (Harris) Schafer. She married Joseph Howard Fuzzy Murrow in 1920. Together, they shared only twelve years of marriage. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1932. She was left to raise five young children ranging in age from 11 years to 14 months.
Along with caring and loving her children, Mrs. Murrow worked for the State Unemployment Offices in Marion, Mt. Vernon, and Herrin until her retirement. She was a member of Warder Street Baptist Church and the Marion Rebeccah Lodge #93 for over fifty-three years. She enjoyed playing in the Senior Citizens band until ill health prevented her. She enjoyed making crafts and loved surprising her family with them; especially at Christmas time. She most enjoyed making and dressing dolls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter & son in law; Betty Follis of Marion, son; John Murrow of Phoenix, AZ, five brothers, one sister, one son in law, one grandson in law and two great grandsons. She will be sadly missed by her family and al that knew and loved her.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Frankie Starrick will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 6-8:30 PM, Monday, August 16, 2004 at the funeral home.
