Ruby Violet Matheny

Herrin- Ruby Violet Matheny, 68, of Herrin, died at 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 21, 2002 at Herrin Hospital. Ruby was born on August 21, 1933 in Franklin County to William Joe & Dorothy (Davis) Lawrence. She married Samuel Matheny on December 23, 1970 in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1991. Mrs. Matheny worked at Country Set in DuQuoin as a presser until her retirement. She was a member of Herrin First Baptist Church. She was a member and past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #1567 and a member of the DAV Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors: Step-daughter- Lou Masters- Maryland Heights, MO Step-daughter- Frances Napp- Dowell, IL Sister- Ida Kendall- Davenport, IA Niece- Kay Harper & husband Ron- Johnston City Niece- Darlene Davidson & husband James- Plumfield Nephew- George Bell- Ziegler Her parents, husband, one sister, three brothers, two half brothers, and one half sister preceded her in death. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 25, 2002 at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Brad Harlow will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-9:00PM, Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Herrin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
