Marion- Ruel L. Young, 85, of Marion, passed away at 7:58 PM, Friday, December 1, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Ruel was born on May 26, 1932 in West Frankfort to Ewing and Hazel (Blue) Young. He married Felicia Amati on August 6, 1960 in Cairo. She preceded him in death on March 17, 1990. He later married Jean Manion and she survives of West Frankfort.
He was a jack of all trades and worked in mine construction and accounting for several years prior to opening his own business polishing floors for area business’.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church in West Frankfort. He volunteered his time helping around the church when needed. In his spare time he enjoyed working outside in his yard (raking and burning leaves) and his garden where he grew delicious vegetables and beautiful flowers. He had a green thumb and grew so many trees that the family dubbed this area as “Ruel’s Forest”.
Ruel was a fanatic of All things U of I and enjoyed watching horse racing, but his greatest joy was spending time with his beloved grandson- Sean. His witty personality and tough and stubborn demeanor will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.

Daughter- Pamela L. Hughes and husband R. Courtney Hughes of Carbondale
Daughter- Dr. Toni Norman and husband Charlie of Marion
Beloved Grandchild- Sean Hughes of Carbondale
Sister- Donna Flowers of North Carolina
Sister- Sadie Reynolds of Springfield
Several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 sisters and a brother.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Mike Cash will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service, Wednesday, at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
