Herrin- Ruth Ann Henderson, 71, of Herrin, passed away at 1:36 PM, Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Herrin Hospital.
Ruth Ann was born on March 22, 1937 in DuQuoin to Jesse & Clara (Hubbs) Griffin. She married Melvin Mutt Henderson on March 17, 1956 in Hernando, MS. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2001.
Mrs. Henderson was a lifelong homemaker and formerly worked as a housekeeper and caregiver for many years at Mattinglys Nursing Home in Energy. Prior to that she worked at Olin Corp. manufacturing ammunition for the US government.
Ruth had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed performing practical jokes on her many friends and loved ones. She looked forward to casino trips to play the slots and enjoyed playing rummy with her sister every week. She loved the outdoors and was a member of the Fin and Feather Club in Freeman Spur. She went fishing and camping with her family practically every weekend when she was able. Ruth was a loyal sports fan. Her teams were the Chicago Cubs, Kentucky Wildcats and Southern Illinois Salukis. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers- Robert & Willard Gene Griffin and two nephews- Rick & Tony Basso.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until time of service, Saturday, at the funeral home.
