Mary G. Atkinson

Herrin- Mary G. Atkinson, 86, of Herrin, passed away at 2:28 PM, Saturday, March 1, 2014 at HerrinHospital. Mary was born on March 3, 1927 in Herrin to Miles and Edna (Sanders) Ralls. She married Paul P. Atkinson on December 28, 1952 at HerrinFirstBaptistChurch.   He preceded her in death on February 21, 1993. Mary retired in 1984 having worked several years as a nurse in HerrinHospital and then later in Medical Records at SuburbanHospital in Hinsdale.  She was Lutheran and a member of ZionLutheranChurch in Hinsdale. In her spare time, she enjoyed landscaping and planting flowers in her flower garden. Survivors include- Son- David M. Atkinson of Herrin Son- Richard W. Atkinson of Darien, IL Sister- Betty Russo and husband Paul of Marion Sister- Delores Hunter and husband Sonny of DuQuoin Sister in law and brother in law- Estel and Cecil Neff of Nauvoo, IL Brother in law- Joe Jack of Energy Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers- Miles Ralls Jr and Bill Ralls and sister- Modena Jack. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.  Rev. Don Colson will officiate.  Burial will follow at HerrinCityCemetery.  Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
