Creal Springs Sarah Grace Garner, 85, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 2:10 P.M. at Herrin Hospital.
Sarah was born January 1, 1925 in Creal Springs the daughter of Guss & Lura Gertrude (Deaton) Holmes. She married William Harold Garner in Carrier Mills on April 3, 1945 and together they shared over 34 years of marriage until his death on May 6, 1979.
She attended two churches regularly growing up, the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and the Springhill Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher and a member of Marions 3rd Baptist Church. In her 40s, Sarah began working for the Creal Springs Nursing Home and later retired from the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Sarah was a woman of great character, having faced many hardships throughout her life. She lost her mother at age 10 and had Scarlet fever and Polio. And later after being widowed she raised their last two children on her own. She wrote Christian prayers and poems, she enjoyed reading her Bible and working crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son- Bill Garner, two grandsons- James Chamness and Aaron Matthew Mitchell, one brother- Ola Holmes, two sisters- Opal Stucker and Syble Doss.
Funeral services will be 11:00am on Monday, June 7, 2010 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Scott Kallem officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery in Galatia. Visitation will be 9-11am on Monday at the funeral home.
