Marion- Sharon Kay Burns, 68, of Marion, went to be with the Lord at 5:25 PM, Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Parkway Manor in Marion.
Sharon Kay was born on December 4, 1944 in Anna to Herbert and Minnie Irene (Alger) Spurlock. She married Hugh S. Burns on August 31, 1968 in Rockford. He survives of Marion.
She was a teacher’s aide and worked at UnityPointSchool and was involved with the CrabOrchardPre-School program prior to her retirement. She was active in the creation of a summer camp for autistic children in Paris, TN.
She was an active member of Herrin First Christian Church as a member of the prayer chain and as a Greeter on Sunday mornings. She enjoyed gardening flowers and vegetables and was an avid writer (although never published) of several short stories and novels. She was very talented at upholstery and decorating and created her daughters wedding dress as well as several others.

Daughter- Tanya Prior and husband Jamie of Hebron, CT
Son- Stuart Burns of McLeansboro
Grandchildren- Joshua and Cassandra Prior of Hebron, CT
Sister- Emily Evansco of Marion
Brother- Scott Wright and wife Barbara of Johnston City
Several nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her father, sister- Peggy Cavaness and brother in law- Thomas Evansco.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor Ron Henwood will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
