Shelby Atkins

Marion Shelby Jean Atkins, 73, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Shelby was born September 21, 1936 in Toler, Kentucky the daughter of Leslie & Maude (Hamilton) Hunley. She married Paul D. Atkins on April 16, 1954 in Turkey Creek, Kentucky and together they shared over 53 years of marriage until his death on February 15, 2008. She was a homemaker, Shelby had worked at Burger Chef and Hardees in Marion, where she had retired. Survivors include: Daughter Paula Kaye Hutchins and husband Steven of Carterville Son Doug E. Atkins and wife Sandi of Goreville Daughter Patricia A. Atkins of Turkey Creek, Kentucky Brother in law James Rhodes of Ypsilanti, Michigan Several Nieces and Nephews Preceded by her Parents, Husband , Five Sisters Alma English, Audrey Rhodes, Wilba Hackney, Barbara Hunley and Betty Hunley Funeral services will be Friday, November 6, 2009 at 10 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Scott Kelly officiating. Entombment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 8 P.M. at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to VNA/TIP Hospice. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.
