Shelby J. Tippy

December 20, 1936 — July 10, 2013

Shelby J. Tippy, 76, slipped peacefully into Jesus’ arms on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 11:34 A.M. after a lengthy battle with cancer. Shelby was born December 20, 1936 in rural Kentucky  the daughter of J.D. and Agnes (Dame) Shadowens.  She married Clifford Tippy on June 14, 1955 in Carbondale and together they have shared over 58 years of marriage. She spent her life as a Cosmetology teacher in both Southern Illinois and the Suburbs of Chicago.  Shelby was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Marion. Shelby is survived in death by her loving husband, Clifford Edward Tippy, her three children;   Michael Edward Tippy, Marcus Lee Tippy, Mitchell Alan Tippy, her eight grandchildren; Michael Eric Tippy, Matthew Aaron Tippy, Marikate Lindsay Tippy, Erin Nicole Tippy, Sara Marie Tippy, Samantha Jean Tippy, Taylor Lee Tippy, and Lauren Elizabeth Tippy, great grandchild Maddox Matthew Michael Tippy, three siblings; Jerald Douglas Shadowens, Doris Marie Shadowens and Rosetta Kay Shadowens. She was preceded in death by her Parents and One Brother Funeral services will be Saturday, July 13, 2013  at 11 A.M. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Marion with Pastor Mark Surburg officiating.  Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.  Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion and from 10 A.M. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
