Shirley Alfreda Spiller

Herrin- Shirley Alfreda Spiller, 73, of Herrin, passed away at 9:25 AM, Friday, January 16, 2015 at Herrin Hospital. Shirley was born on September 28, 1941in Herrin to George Washington and Eva Mae (Walker) Atterberry. She married Leland Ray Spiller on April 26, 1961 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2013. Mrs. Spiller was retired after working several years at Maytag in Herrin. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Herrin. Shirley was an active lady and was a member of the Senior Circle in Herrin and the Williamson County Program for Aging. In her spare time she enjoyed craftwork and volunteered her time at the Marion Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved her. Survivors include- Daughter- Karen Shands and husband Kenny of Johnston City Daughter- Connie Ezell of Herrin Daughter- Tracy Hunter and husband Joe of Chesapeake Beach, MD Twelve Grandchildren: Ronald and James Peters of Herrin Jessica Evans of Johnston City Jessica Shands of Herrin Jason Spiller of Herrin Christopher Roy Ezell of Herrin Allison Spiller of Herrin Carl Spiller of Herrin Joe, James, Makalya and John Hunter of Chesapeake Beach, MD Three Great Grandchildren- Camden, Madox and Raeleigh Sister- Bernice Vancil of Herrin Sister- Daisy Holland and husband Milton Holland Jr. of Herrin Sister- Peggy Crow and husband Ray of Herrin Brother- Carrold Atterberry and wife Dorothy of Herrin Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Allen Spiller, sisters- Rosalie Atterberry and Annalee Upchurch, and brothers- Harold and Henry Atterberry. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 19, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13^th St. / Herrin, IL.
