Shirley L. Hill

Carterville- Shirley L. Hill, age 67, of Carterville, passed away at 8:45am on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Herrin Hospital with her loving family by her side. Shirley was born in Marion on October 10, 1939, the daughter of Albert Varner and Dorothy (Smith) Jones. Ms. Hill attended the Jubilee Tabernacle in DeSoto. She was an ordained minister and a member of the International Gospel Assembly. Shirley enjoyed singing and playing the piano in church. Most of all, she dearly loved her family. Survivors include her companion and friend- Charles Hill of Herrin, IL Mother- Dorothy (Smith) Jones of Pittsburg, IL Daughter- Marilyn Zavala of Herrin, IL Son- Michael and Valerie Hill of Johnston City, IL Son- Jason and Annie Hill of Herrin, IL Granddaughter (like a daughter)- Amanda and Sean Williams of Marion, IL 13 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren Brother- George and Jane Jones of Pittsburg, IL Five Sisters- Josephine Varner of Carterville, IL Eva Shelby of Johnston City, IL Sandy and Larry Long of Johnston City, IL Karen and George Bush of Herrin, IL Judy Holmes of Energy, IL Several nieces and nephews Two special friends- Doris and Joni Shirley was preceded in death by her father- Albert; her daughter- Theresa McGee, 3 grandsons- Johnathan Walker, Dennis Matthew Snider, and Cole Ryan Crowell; one brother- Jack Jones. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Number Eight Cemetery in Pittsburg. Visitation will be held from 6-9pm on Friday, August 31, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
