Herrin-Shirley M. Winkler, 74, died 2:40 P.M., Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Herrin Hospital with her family by her side. She was born May 13, 1930 in Marion to Charles & Mae (Aigner) Boyt. At the age of three she was adopted by Lloyd & Cecyle Pike. She was married to Robert William Winkler for 57 years. They married October 18, 1947 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2003. She was retired from Kroger's where she worked in the Deli. She also worked at Allen Industries for 13 years. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Herrin. Survivors Include: Two Daughters: Kaye Miller of Herrin Tammy Sue Winkler of Herrin Five Grandchildren: Tracy Miller of Herrin Nikki Rishel & husband Michael of Desoto, IL. Lauren Reynolds of Herrin Clayton Lacy of Herrin Robbie Winkler, Jr. of Geneseo, New York Sara Winkler of Syracuse, New York Six Great Grandchildren: Hunter and Brandon Rishel of Desoto, IL. Alex McRoy of Herrin Christian Brandon of Johnston City Sydney Winkler of New York William Beatrus of New York She was preceded in death by her parents, step parents, husband, two sons, Michael J. Winkler and Robbie R. Winkler, special son in law, Bill Miller, sister Gussie Lee Bailey and brother Charles Boyt. For those who knew Shirley, she was a very fun and outgoing person. She devoted her life to her husband and children. She had a great compassion for animals. She was loved dearly and will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved her. As per Shirleys wishes, her body will be cremated with no visitation or services. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Walk. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
