Herrin- Shirley Rose Brasher, 69, of Herrin, passed away at 11:20 PM, Friday, February 20, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Shirley was born on June 30, 1939 in Herrin to Lester & Julia (Long) Clark. She married Leon Brasher in Herrin on September 1, 1956. He survives of Herrin. Mrs. Brasher retired from Olin Industries and was a member of Christian Covenant Fellowship Church in Carterville. Shirley was a loving Mother and Sister, her family always came first in her life. No matter how far apart her family was, she always managed to get them together. She taught them all how to laugh and enjoy each other. Her vigor and sense of humor would always bring the laughter out of everyone. She was a true friend and always had open arms to make new friends. She never met a stranger. She was wonderfully outspoken. You always knew where you stood in her esteem and how she stood on any issue that came up. She was always ready for a new adventure. She was an avid NASCAR fan. She will be surely missed by her family and friends. Survivors include- Husband- Leon Brasher of Herrin Son- William Brasher of Herrin Daughter- Kim Sweeney & husband Michael of Herrin Son- Brian Brasher & wife Shelia of Lynnville, TN Twin sons- Keith Brasher of Herrin Kevin Brasher & wife Shari of Herrin Ten Grandchildren Seven Step Grandchildren Eight Great Grandchildren Sister- Doris Krenzelak of Chicago Sister- Judy Riley & husband Mike of Carterville Sister- Cheryl Houston & husband Phil of Herrin Several nieces & nephews She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers- Don & Charles Clark. God saw you getting tired, when a cure was not to be. So He wrapped his arms around you, and whispered, Come to me. You didnt deserve what you went through, So He gave you rest. Gods garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best. And when I saw you sleeping, so peaceful and free from pain, I would not wish you back to suffer that again. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Terry Griffith & Rev. Richard Pearce will officiate. Entombment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Monday, February 23, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Judes Childrens Hospital and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948.
