Sondra Jean Loyd, age 79, of Marion, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Barnes- Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Sondra was born January 09, 1944 in Marion, Illinois, a daughter of Haskell and Margaret (Grey) Jackson. She grew up in Marion and graduated Marion High School class of 1962. She married the love of her life, Jerry R. Loyd on June 02, 1962 in Marion, IL. Sondra had been employed with the Marion Daily Republican as a secretary, then she worked for General Telephone Co., Marion V.A. Hospital in Human Resources, worked as a server at Bonanza, and finally for the company that her sons own Rail Ready Services on North Market Street in Marion. Sondra loved hosting family gatherings at her home as she was an exceptional cook. Her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the love of her life. She also enjoyed camping, quilting, and was a devoted member to Arnold View Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband Jerry R. Loyd of Marion, IL; four children, Anthony A. (Deshona) Loyd of Marion, IL, Eric E. (Susan) Loyd of Port Charlott, FL, Lynn M. (Scott) Schuetz-Lyerla of St. Louis, MO, and April A. (Phil) Paulat of Marion, IL; sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, a sister Rosemary Ticer of Herrin, IL, three sisters-in-law Shelba Jackson of Pittsburg, IL, Annette Jackson of SC, and Sharon Jackson of TN; and many cousins, and many special nieces & nephews. She is preceded in death by one son-in-law Brian Schuetz; one grandchild, Ashton Williams; her parents, Haskell and Margaret Jackson; and three brothers, John Jackson, Harlond Jackson, and Glen Jackson.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 1st, 2023 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home, and Sunday from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held Sunday, April 2, 2023, 1:30 PM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Ivan Ryan and Rev. Adam Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carrier Mills.
