Stella Mae Varacalli

Herrin- Stella Mae Varacalli, 75, of Herrin, died at 2:15 PM, Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at St. Louis University Hospital. Stella was born on June 9, 1929 in Herrin to William Earl & Pansy (Spiller) Jones. She married her husband of forty-seven years, Nick Varacalli, on January 26, 1957 in Herrin. He survives of Herrin. She was a retired owner/operator of Stellas Styles hair salon in Herrin. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. In her spare time, Stella enjoyed craftwork such as crocheting and sewing, and cooking special meals for her family, such as fried chicken and risotto. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She was a selfless person who was there whenever she was needed. All who knew and loved her will dearly miss her. SURVIVORS: Husband- Nick Varacalli- Herrin Son- Rocco Varacalli- Herrin Son & daughter in law- Nick & Laura Varacalli- Herrin Daughter & son in law- Cindy & Jay Johns- Marion Daughter- Lori Varacalli & Steve Myers- Herrin Seven Grandchildren: Joshua & Caleb Varacalli- Herrin Cyle, Kegan & Kaitlyn Johns- Marion Trevor & Travis Myers- Herrin Three Great Grandchildren: Nicholas & Luca Varacalli- Herrin Hayleigh Johns- Marion Sister- Velma Sharpe- Oakridge, TN Sister & brother in law- Donna & Carl Smith- Manhattan, KS Several nieces & nephews She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters; Lois Smith & Hazel Young. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
