Louisville, KY Steven Roger Williams age 42, of Louisville and formerly of Creal Springs, passed away due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Elizabethtown, KY at 5:30 A.M. Friday, February 15, 2002. Funeral services will be at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, IL Tuesday, January 19, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Lichtefeld and Rev. Shorty Alsip officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery near Creal Springs. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 11:00 a.m. till time of the service. The Kentucky division of the Horsemen?s Benevolent and Protective Association has created a fund for Robert Williams. Donations can be made to HBPA?Williams Fund 3733 S. Fourth St. Louisville, KY 40214 and will be accepted at the funeral home. Steven Roger Williams was born in Marion to Curtis R. and Sue (Turnage) Williams August 9, 1959. They survive in Creal Springs, IL. He married Grace M. (Norman) on February 14, 1987 in Louisville, KY. Steven was an Assistant Trainer for Paul McGee Trainers at Church Hill Downs. Steven was widely recognized as one of the most important cogs in McGee?s ascent of national prominence as a trainer. He was the son of a Southern Illinois horse owner and had his own stable in Chicago and Kentucky for 10 years. John Asher, Churchill Downs vice president of racing information, described Steve and Grace Williams as the kind of people who quietly work at tracks and make it possible for others to be in the limelight. He was also a member of Saint Stephen Martyr Catholic Church in Louisville, KY. Steven leaves behind one son: Robert C. Williams of Louisville, and a brother and sister-in-law: Keith & Paula Williams of Berwyn, IL and a Sister and Brother-in-law: Kristal and Eddie Donnelson of Marion, IL, Father in-law Robert Norman of Leesport, PA and Mother in-law Margaret Norman of Hinton, VA. Preceding him in death are his wife Grace, and son Christian Roger Williams who perished in the accident with him. She was raised in Annapolis, graduating from St. Mary?s High School in 1977. Her love for horses led her away to bigger horse racing facilities. She married Steven R. Williams in Louisville, KY February 14, 1987. Grace was a groomer at Churchill Downs where she worked with her husband. She was a member of Saint Stephen Martyr Catholic Church in Louisville, KY. Grace leaves behind one Son Robert C. Williams of Louisville, KY, her Father Robert Norman of Leesport, PA, Mother Margaret J. Norman of Hinton, VA, Father and Mother-in-law Curtis and Sue Williams of Creal Springs, IL, she Brother Robert M. Norman of Santa Rosa, CA, Brother William M. Norman of Crownsville, MD, Brother Richard M. Norman of Churchton, MD, Brother John H. Norman of Annapolis, MD, Brother C. Michael Norman of Crownsville, MD, and Brother David M. Norman of Hinton, MD, Sister Mary E. Colby of Crofton, MD, Sister Carole Hawthorne of Davie FL, Sister Patricia Norman of Lawrence, KS, Sister Theresa Langford of Millersville, MD, Sister Beverly Soteros of Spokane, WA, Twenty eight Nieces and Nephews, One great Niece and one great nephew. Preceding her in death are her husband Steven R. Williams, one son Christian Roger Williams, and sister Margaret Jane Norman. He attended first grade at the Saint Stephen Martyr Catholic School in Louisville, KY and attended church there as well. He will be sadly missed by his classmates and friends at Saint Stephen, a school of less than 400 students. Christian leaves behind one Brother Robert C.
