Steven Stapleton

Tunnel Hill- STEVEN STAPLETON, age 61, of Tunnel Hill, passed away at 12:40pm on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. Steven was born in Herrin on October 20, 1946, the son of Russell and Mildred (Sanders) Stapleton. He married Dianne Stephens on December 6, 1969 at the Second Baptist Church in Marion. They shared thirty-eight years of marriage. Dianne survives in Tunnel Hill. Steven retired from Peabody Eagle #2 Mine in Shawneetown. He served in the United States Marine Corp and was a Vietnam Veteran. Mr. Stapleton was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, the Goreville Masonic Lodge- the 32nd Degree Consistory, and the National Rifle Association. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post # 1301. Survivors include his wife- Dianne (Stephens) Stapleton of Tunnel Hill, IL His parents- Russell and Mildred (Sanders) Stapleton of Crab Orchard, IL One Sister- Deborah and Tim Hill of Crab Orchard, IL Two Brothers- Jerry and Pam Stapleton of Crab Orchard, IL Michael and Robin Stapleton of Crab Orchard, IL Mother-In-Law- Vera Stephens of Marion, IL Brother-In-Law-Gary and Debra Stephens of Sparta, IL Several nieces and nephews Steven was preceded in death by his Father-In-Law- Dennis Stephens and his aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Tim Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery with military rites presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Unit. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will be held at 7:30pm on Saturday evening at the funeral home.
