Susan Ann Pankey

Herrin- SUSAN ANN PANKEY, age 58, of Herrin, passed away at 5:00pm on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Carbondale Memorial Hospital. Susan was born in Danville on November 28, 1953, the daughter of Paul and Helen (Solomon) Brown. She was united in marriage with Thomas Pankey on June 30, 1968 in Carbondale. He survives of Herrin. Susan was a second grade teacher with Herrin Unit #4, retiring from teaching in 2008 after thirty-five years. Teaching was her passion, and she was grateful to have a job that she loved doing every single day. Because of her dedication and talent, it is no surprise the amount of lives she touched over the years. She believed that every student was special and had the potential to succeed. In her spare time, she enjoyed visiting her children and spending time with her other kids Spanky and Bandit, as well as her grand-dogs Harley, Rider and Athena. She is survived by her husband- Thomas Pankey of Herrin, IL Three children- Kristin and Cody McGinnis of Charlotte, NC Megan and Jared Russell of Redmond, WA Brian Pankey of Herrin, IL Susan was preceded in death by her parents and her brother- Bill Coates. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Herrin Elementary School- SAAC Fund.
