Herrin- Tammer Saliba, 86, of Bedford, IN, formerly of Herrin, passed away at 12:37 PM, Sunday, September 9, 2007 at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford, IN. Tammer was born on April 18, 1921 in Zeigler to Sam & Rose Saliba. He married Pauline Burleson on June 15, 1948. She survives of Bedford, IN. Mr. Saliba graduated from Herrin High School in 1939. He graduated from Taylor College and received his masters degree from Ball State University. Tammer began his career as an English teacher and band director at Mississinewa High School in Gas City/Jonesboro, IN. He left there to teach fifth grade and coach basketball at Logan School in Marion. He then took a job at Thornton High School in Harvey, IL and next became a Psychology/Sociology Instructor at Thornton Junior College until his retirement in 1983. Tammer was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Herrin where he and Pauline served as evangelical singers for eight years. He sang while Pauline accompanied him and played the piano. Survivors include- Wife- Pauline Saliba of Bedford, IN Son & daughter in law- Larry Dean & Susan Joyce Saliba of Mitchell, IN Son & daughter in law- David Lee & Marcia Saliba of Eldorado Hills, CA Son & daughter in law- Stephen Paul & Ginger Saliba of Peotone, IL Grandchildren: Jimmy Saliba & wife April of Mitchell, IN Christopher Saliba of Mitchell, IN David Lee Saliba, II, MD and wife Bridgette of Winston-Salem, NC Hardy Saliba & wife Tina of Eldorado Hills, CA Eddie, John & Andrew Saliba of Peotone, IL Great Grandchild- Lily Faith Saliba of Mitchell, IN Sister- Sammy Sellars of Herrin Several nieces & nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers- George & Mike Saliba, sisters- Zine, Flossie, Vickie, Fairy & Myrtle. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at the Herrin First United Methodist Church. Rev. Eugene Black, Rev. LaVon Baylor & Rev. Ed Hoke will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin VFW & American Legion Posts. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service, Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Herrin. Funeral services are being provided by Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to Mitchell Church of the Nazarene, First United Methodist Church of Herrin or to the music department of Taylor University. Envelopes will be available at the church or can be mailed to Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St./ Herrin, IL 62948.
