Herrin- Theodore S. McNeill, age 92, of Herrin, passed away at 11:00am on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Theodore was born in Herrin on February 17, 1922, the son of John B. and Mollie (Stern) McNeill. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran having served in World War II. Mr. McNeill was a member of the GoodShepherdLutheranChurch in Marion and a member of the Herrin American Legion. Ted lived to fish and enjoyed gardening. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife- Jeanette (Kothe) McNeill of Herrin, whom he married on October 17, 1998; three daughters- Diane Nicholas of Oakland, KY, Deborah Dolan of Norris City, IL, and Jesyka Ground of Fayetteville, AR; six grandchildren- Rebecca Smith, Holly Vincent, Nathan Dolan, Anne Coston, Mamie Botkin, and Lydia Kuhlman-Flickner; eight great grandchildren; sister- Margaret McDaniel of Herrin; aunt- Gladys Frasier of Herrin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; previous wives- Patricia and Betty McNeill; daughter- Kimberly Botkin; grandson- Aaron Awalt; six brothers- Herbert, Lester, George, John Jr., Wendell, and Ronald McNeill; and three sisters- Irene McNeill, Florence Wilamoski, and Mary Jane Butler.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (1801 Westminster Drive) in Marion with Rev. Mark P. Surburg officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Military honors will be performed at graveside by Herrin’s American Legion and VFW posts with assistance from the United States Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 9:30am-11:00am on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Marion.
