Herrin- Thomas Glenn, age 81, of Herrin, died in Springfield at 5:25am on Monday, September 24, 2007, from heart disease.
Thomas was born June 4, 1926 in Clifford, IL. He was the son of Claude and Ruah (Swinford) Glenn. On August 29, 1952, he married his devoted companion, Rosemary Burgess, in Piggott, AR. Together, they shared fifty-four years of marriage, until her passing on July 6, 2007.
Thomas was a World War II veteran who enlisted at the age of seventeen and served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre, where he was witness to the flag raising on Iwo Jima. After the war, he was employed for thirty years as a steelworker at Northwestern Steel and Wire in Sterling, IL. The Glenns made their home in Rock Falls before retiring to Herrin. A member of the First Baptist Church, Thomas was active in various aspects of church ministries through the years.

Thomas was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemary; his parents; and a sister- Vera Burress.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Charles Dampeer, Rev. Don Grammer, and Rev. Brad Harlow will officiate. Entombment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Herrin with military honors performed by Herrins American Legion and VFW Posts. Visitation will be from 6-8:00pm on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
