Valice Smith

Valice W. Smith, 87, died Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 4:00 P.M. in his residence surrounded by his family. Valice was born August 15, 1916 to Rufus W. and Minnie (Hayes) Smith in Abernant, AL. He married Hilda (Wisek) Smith on August 01, 1946 in Johnston City and she survives in Marion. Valice was a retired coal miner, having worked for Old Ben Coal. He was a WWII Army Air Corp veteran and attended 1st Baptist Church in Marion. Survivors include: Son & Daughter-in-law Dwayne L. & Ellen Smith of Smiths Grove, KY Three Grandchildren: Sgt. Dwayne A. Smith USMC Havelock, NC Heather Tibbs of West Frankfort April Smith of Los Angeles, CA Two Great-Grandchildren: Abagail & Emily Smith of Havelock, NC Preceded by: Parents, Three Sisters, Geneva Wisek, Imogene Stanski and Ruth Smith Funeral services will be Monday, March 15th at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Dr. Joey Brent officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with Military Rites performed by V.F.W. Post #1301 of Marion. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
