Goreville- Verne Lee Hill, 90, of Goreville, formerly of Marion and Lake of Egypt, passed away at 8:55 AM, Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
Verne Lee was born on February 21, 1923 in Creal Springs to Arthur Wilson and Bertie Lee (Pritchett) Doron. She married Jesse Lowell Hill on June 15, 1940 in Marion. He preceded her in death on August 18, 1997.
She was retired after operating a beauty shop called Verne Lee’s Beauty Salon from her home for many years. She was a member of Marion First Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Marion. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends, travelling to Florida and fishing. She was a very good cook and would always have biscuits and gravy with sausage ready for breakfast and chicken and dumpling on the stove and a custard pie in the oven. She most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include-Son- Dwight L. Hill and wife Gage of Goreville; Daughter- Sharon Kay (Hill) Bruhn and husband Darrell of Maryville; Grandchild- Marcy Atia Rak and husband Chuck of Maryville; Great Grandchildren- Malea Kay, Garin Dean and Kylynn Atia Rak; Sister in law- Juanita Dameron of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother- Roland Doron and loving brother in law- Leeburn Dameron.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the graveside. Rev. Wade Halva will officiate. Entombment will follow at the cemetery. Funeral arrangements were made with Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
